Referrals and assessment at CCT:

How are referrals made ?

A parent may contact us directly about their child needing assessment and / or therapy at CCT or a referral may be via your child’s GP, paediatrician, other doctor or school-based staff.

Following referral, we will establish contact by email or phone to understand a little more about the concerns that have led to the OT or /and physiotherapy referral and will usually propose an initial assessment.

Where will the assessment or intervention take place?

Assessment may be arranged in nursery, school or in one of our clinic locations - and occasionally at home.

You may be asked to complete a Parent Questionnaire so that we have relevant background information to help us tailor the assessment. Prompt return of the questionnaire can also reduce the conversation needed when your child attends for assessment.

What will happen at the assessment ?

For children, the assessment needs to be playful. We will engage the children in a wide range of activities both at the table and moving around, so that we can learn more about their strengths and preferences as well as the things that they find more difficult.
We will typically complete a series of standardised assessments to allow objective evaluation of skill sets, as well as more informal playful tasks which allows more extended clinical observation.

The assessment takes around 1 - 2 hours depending on the needs of your child.

We make time to discuss initial findings at the session, involving the children in this feedback as appropriate.

Will I receive a report ?

We write up a detailed report following the assessment. We will recommend further intervention if this is indicated.

We aim to write reports which are clear, easy to share with teachers or other professionals and which fundamentally support better understanding of any difficulties a child may be experiencing for all those involved in the child’s care.

Will there be further intervention?

Further intervention may be proposed; this can range from a course of weekly sessions in the clinic or school, participation in small group provisions we run, or provision of a therapy programme to work on at home and/or in school with regular reviews.

The nature, frequency and duration of the  intervention proposed will depend entirely on the identified needs and will be discussed with you following assessment.
